I Want to Sing…

My heart is ready, God.
I want to sing.
I want to play music for you
on the strings of a harp
or on a beating drum.
Your love is bigger
than the earth ann sky.

Psalm 8
~from Psalms for Young Children by Marie-Helene Delval

I couple of days ago I felt exactly what this psalm is singing.  It was share day in the preschool class at Margaret Brent Elementary MIddle School in Charles Village.  A good friend of my youngest brought in his guitar for share day.  The kids were quite excited to see the guitar unclose and became completely entranced when he began to play it.  This accomplished 5 year old then began to plucked the tune, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”  The kids bursted into spontaneous applause and asked him to play it again. And as he played the second time, they began to sing along.  Even those in the class who never sing joined in the chorus.  It was an awesome spirit-filled morning in Pre-K!

Uninhibited spirit-filled mornings……I could use a few more of those.  This Sunday is Pentecost and it should be one of those mornings.  A morning when we celebrate the spirit blowing freely in and through our lives.  But I have to ask, are our hearts ready?  And will our hearts be so spirit filled that we can’t help but sing out like this pre-k class?  I sure hope so!!
